I created the Pure Barre technique nearly 20 years ago and there are still some exercises signature to barre I do daily, which I think speaks volumes. But, as with anything over the course of 2 decades, my body and mind have changed and what serves them best and most effectively has also changed. CDM is now my “barre” workout and this is what it looks like!
I utilize 3 cleats with bands attached to each cleat. The absence of a stable barre requires me to use my core and balance more then when I can rely on a fixed support. The bands provide resistance from multiple angles allowing each movement to be dynamic and full-body.
I integrate cardio and wear sneakers to support these exercises. I often use the step as it provides so many great cardio options, including low-impact variations.
I still do small range of movement exercises (aka pulses) however I do just as many large range movements.
After stretching, I end my workout with a few minutes of breathwork and meditation.
People often ask how I marketed Pure Barre in the early days. The truth is I would say “this is the workout I do for myself and it really works….let me teach it to you and if you love it, great, if it’s not for you, let me help you find something that is.” There is something out there for everyone but the best workout is one that you will actually do! I teach CDM at my Denver studio which is a private studio BUT if you are in the area and would like to take class, please do email us!
