Our G JAR sits on the dinner table and we do it during dinner. Each person thinks about their day and says what they are most grateful for. I write the responses down and place them in the jar. With 3 kids close in age, we have an assigned daily order of who contributes first (parents with close siblings will appreciate)!
At ages 4.5, 4.5 and 5.5, we get some interesting remarks and at least once a week someone is grateful for the dog. They get it though and Frank and I get it. On tougher days I find myself sitting and having to think for a few minutes but inevitably there is always something to be grateful for.
If there is a day we forget, the kids have journals in their nightstand drawers and someone always remembers after bath...."mom we forgot to do the G JAR"...we write it in the journal.
I started the G JAR for the kids but now I'm not so sure who it benefits more. If you're looking for a simple way to bring a gratitude practice in to your home, I highly recommend giving this a try!
