The arrival of the holidays brings with it a need to house leftovers. I saw leftover season as an opportune time to talk about shifting away from plastic to glass food storage.
I grew up in the Tupperware age but a lot has changed since then. I started researching plastic alternatives after reading studies showing: plastic leaches chemicals into our food and drinks, BPA and BPS have been shown to have hormone-mimicking, estrogenic properties, BPA has been linked to breast cancer tumors, BPA is now found in 81% of blood tested, and that it can lead to ailments such as diabetes, obesity, asthma, birth defects and cancer.
A few years ago, glass food storage containers were hard to find and expensive but prices have come down and options have gone up. I product tested a handful of brands. Many I struggled so hard get the lids on and off I gave up and put it away half open (pretty much defeating the purpose). Below are the glass storage options I recommend.
