We recently took a family trip to the mountains for the weekend and I said to my husband Frank “you know you’re getting old when your suitcase contains more “stuff” than clothes. I of course was referring to my suitcase which held all the below plus some. My thinking is…I can absolutely wear these jeans all weekend to make room for my foam roller!
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that having a recovery regimen executed daily is extremely important for soothing tight muscles and more importantly, as preventative work which allows me to physically perform. There are a lot of tools on the market, many not worth the money. Below are the 3 recovery tools I use regularly. The Yoga Toes and Foam Roller I do use every night. The Theragun, a pricier item, I use when I know I will be doing more than my usual amount of exercise (a hiking trip) or a part of my bod needs more attention. It’s great to put on your holiday or birthday wishlist!
The fact I use these daily surprised me the most but it’s been over a year now and I don’t imagine I’ll ever stop. I read a blip in a magazine about a female runner who ran at 4:30a before her kids and co-workers got up and when she got to the office, she’d use her Yoga Toes under her desk. A quick stop on Yoga Toes site makes it a no-brainer…we stuff our feet in to shoes every day which causes foot atrophy and our feet are the basis of our health. I started with the GEMS and then also tried the ORIGINAL for Women. I like them both but the Original are smaller and a little less aggressive!
The benefits of foam rolling are plenty. It is a self-mysofascial technique release which helps relieve tightness, soreness and inflammation. It’s an affordable massage! There a a ton of Roller options out there and a wide price range. I prefer this $20 roller for home and this collapsible one for travel.
Yep, it’s pricey…although it’s the cost of 2 massage appointments if you think about it. I have the “cheapest” version. How and why it works are best explained on the Theragun site but I will say I received it as a gift from my husband it’s really awesome!
