Spring in Colorado can be a very confusing time. You’ll wake up one morning to a beautiful, typical spring day and by lunch it’s 35° and hailing. Spring can also be a confusing time for your beauty routine because different weather calls for a different regimen. Are you still using the heavy, ultra-hydrating balms you’ve been using all winter? Does your skin look and feel dull and lackluster? Are your bathroom cabinets overflowing with old products and stuff you flat out don’t use anymore? To save you time, heartache and worry, we’ve put together a guide that will help you spring clean your beauty routine to get you fresh, glowing and ready for whatever this season brings you way!
AILLEA’S SPRING CLEANING BEAUTY GUIDE
1. SWITCH TO A LIGHTER MOISTURIZER
Despite the crazy weather changes that Spring can bring, there’s usually quite a bit more moisture in the air than there was in the winter. So, put away those heavy balms and creams and reach for lighter serums and oils. If you still find yourself battling dryness try using those heavier formulas at nighttime only or reaching for a sheet mask to give your skin a light, yet ultra-hydrating treat.
TATA HARPER ILLUMINATING MOISTURIZER, $110
MAYA CHIA THE SUPER COUPLE ULTRA LUXE FACE OIL SERUM, $85
ORGAID ORGANIC SHEET MASKS, $6 (individual), $22 (six pack)
2. LOOK FOR LIGHTER/BRIGHTENING CLEANSERS
For the same reasons your skin needs a lighter moisturizer, it also needs a lighter cleanser. We particularly love reaching for formulas that have gentle brightening qualities to give your skin that “I just stepped out of a rose garden” glow.
INDIE LEE BRIGHTENING CLEANSER, $34
ALPYN PLANTGENIUS CREAMY BUBBLING CLEANSER, $36
3. EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!
In the winter our skin is more sensitive, therefore we all probably weren’t exfoliating as much as we should have been. When we don’t exfoliate enough dead skin cells build up which can lead to dullness, more frequent breakouts (gross), patchiness and makes us more prone to wrinkles (I’ll pass). Make sure to not overdo it, though. Exfoliating too often is also a bad thing. 2-3 times a week is usually enough for most people.
JOSH ROSEBROOK ACTIVE ENZYME EXFOLIATOR, $60
BAUDELAIRE SISAL 9” BODY BRUSH, $10
INDIE LEE COCONUT CITRUS SCRUB, $40
4. TRY A TINTED MOISTURIZER AND A CREAM BLUSH
We love a good no-makeup makeup look at AILLEA. A tinted moisturizer provides a sheer wash of coverage, letting your natural complexion shine through (usually with added skincare and SPF benefits as well). Why work so hard on your skin to get that beautiful spring glow and then cover it up with heavy foundation?! If you do feel like you need a little more coverage, spot treat in those specific areas with a concealer (RMS Un Cover-Up works perfectly). Cream blush is a great way to give your skin a beautiful color and flush without making it look cakey.
ILIA TINTED MOISTURIZER, $42
SUNTEGRITY 5 IN 1 MOISTURIZING FACE SUNSCREEN-TINTED, $45
KJAER WEIS CREAM BLUSH, $56
RMS LIP2CHEEK, $36
